Colourful ear treatment

Episode 534

Do you know the term filter bubble? It's quite a phenomenon of modern times. Not only do you build your social environment with people you have lots in common. But modern technology, like search engines and social media, analyse you and your preferences. This way, mostly things are brought to your attention, which you like and which correspond to your views. It's nearly impossible to escape your own bubble nowadays, especially with artificial intelligence being everywhere for your benefit. Quite astounding. So, if you want to know of things outside your filter bubble, to get to know different views, always be open to others and other opinions. Oh, do not mistake this as a call to "wake up". Not every statement counts as an opinion. As well as science not being a question of believe. But I am trailing off. Tonight's edition is one of those to break your bubble. Namely the one of your listening habits. Join me for half an hour of really interesting and cool tracks by Pandacetamol (A Different Place), Tomoroh Hidari (小さな夢達), Jack Hertz (Artificial), radium88 (Until the last leaf falls), AnalogX, and Record of Tides (Black Album).

Stream on

Episode 533

And the thinking goes on how to handle the change in licensing. Would be OK to have syndae as stream only? How do you listen to syndae? Do you download and listen later? Do you listen via the website? Or some other way? Let me know. Either in comments or by mail. I am currently looking at Mixcloud, which I use as second channel for a while now. Do you know it? Any experiences you can share? Let me know! But let's get back to the music. Netlabel day special part 2 tonight, with more cool free music. Many artists published music that day, not all of them suitable for syndae. Last week we had the quiet ones. This time, it's the rhythmic edition with excellent tracks by D_Smoker (Hot Trax), Olympic (Pequeño Cosmos), Jack_Plug (Rehacer), pl8 (Special Tape Compilation), SMOK (Brain Damage), Terranigma (Access Frame: Equity).

Celebrating coloured notes

Episode 532

Some of you might have read about the dilemma for syndae regarding music licensed via the rights collective GEMA. They changed the license in a way that I can no longer have music on the show that is licensed by many such organizations all around the globe. This includes some well known artists in electronic music. I am still looking for a solution to this, as it would be a pity for the show, the artists and you as listener. Maybe there is no solution? Well, I am open for suggestions. So let me know, if you have an idea how to handle this issue. Tonight's edition is save, though. All the music is by independent artists who publish their music via netlabels. Yes. It's the first about the Netlabel Day. To calm down from the licensing shock, I chose rather ambient tracks. But, you know, even ambient is quite diverse. So have a great time with music by Harueda Mizu (Desert Song), Teeth of Divine (ReAct I: ReGenesis), Enrico Falbo (Planktón), Whaltthisney (Thisintoxica), Skeleton Hand (Dumb Sounds Vol 4 (Green)).

Hitting the right keys

Episode 531

Where do we come from? Where do we go? What is our purpose? Some questions often asked and maybe answered, especially in philosophical and religous views. To me, this question is a difficult one. If it is the right question at all to be asked. Maybe there will be some mighty artificial intelligence one day, whom the question is given. It may take some million years to get a response, and then it might come clear that the question was wrong and the answer is of no use. Ok, ok, one might see the reference here. But AI can do amazing things right today. Well, and may be used for shenanigans. Like an music creating algorithm. Would that be actual electronic music then? Or paintings, like the teaser image for this show. Well, the music of tonight is still hand made. Enjoy the wonderful tracks by Ethnicalvibes feat. Mayura (Ethnostep 10), Backstage Gurus (Mediterranean Odyssey), Trackologists feat. Cosmic Noise Crew (Seventh Listen), Bristol Manor (Down Time), Code Indigo (E-Scape 2020), Stan Dart (Murinsel III).

Turning the tables

Episode 530

I am currently stuck in home office. Which is nice, as I save an about one hour daily drive to work. But I just realized that I listen to at least one hour less music each day now. Actually, in the past weeks, there is not so much music in my life, if it weren't for compiling a podcast. I assume that I am not the only one, as many people stay more at home now and especially music parties or events simply do not happen at the moment. What are all these DJs doing currently? Switching to Vidcasting? Well, as said, luckily there is syndae. So I have to take some time off to listen to music. The force is strong on this one. So let's have some fun tonight with the right speed of beat, listening to tracks by Bruit Blanc (La moitié de moi), Zen Racoon (Pote 3), Youth & Gaudi (Astronaut Alchemists Remixes), Spintribe (Zephyr), Hynamo (Baba Juno).

Breathe and relish

Episode 529

Weekend. Time to celebrate or simply turn the world off for a while and simply enjoy the silence. On this edition you will meet the latter with excellent ambient sounds and rides. Actually, one of the most serene editions for a long time. And with all those strange things happening around the world in these times, I'd say that taking some time off and getting lost in ones own mind is a great alternative. Well, ok, I do talk. But hopefully not too disturbing. If so, you can easily visit the artists' and labels' sites and fetch copies of the albums presented, which are by Sam Rosenthal & Jarguna (Sunwashed Evening Fire), Cousin Silas (Emporium Sampler), Shinpal (Momentary Disappeared Memory), Forest Robots (After Geography), Howard Givens & Craig Padilla (The Bodhi Mantra).

The beat is ticking

Episode 528

What is time exactly? Is it a dimension like with space? It's often said that time is a precious good. But it is no good. You cannot collect time, cannot save time, cannot borrow time or buy it. Although, there are lots of phrases telling one you could. Is it possible to travel in time? Who knows. There are several theories what time travel would mean, like that each choice opens a new timeline, so you could switch between them. I love movies and stories about time travel. But in the end, you are a time traveller indeed. Also, there is only one direction and a constant, non-modifiable speed: always going forward. Well, ok, there is Einstein telling you that time will slow down, when you hit lightspeed. And it's said that speed of time depends on gravity. Well, we're not in space on a daily basis, yet. Currently, it's rather a matter of what you do during the time you experience as life. One great thing to do, is to listen to music. Especially, if it is as good as the tracks you will hear on syndae. For example the ones on this show by Jim Ottaway (When Eternity Touches Time), Obukhovaudio (Orphans of the Sky), The Garwin Project (E-Scape 2020), Bob Hedger (2020 Karma Cafe Jam Session Vol. 3), and Wolfgang Nachahmer (Triptychon).

Seeds well placed

Episode 527

The big rollout is about to start again. It's vacation time and timely restrictions on travelling were lifted recently. Is this a happy time? I don't know, yet. Maybe, I am too cautious and conservative. Or am I just more careful than others? It seems to be true with respect to health issues, but what about music? As you know, I do like to have some more experimental stuff on the show. Sometimes. Well, maybe rather rarely. Indeed, I prefer harmonic and melodic sounds. This not necessarily has to be exclusive. The albums presented tonight are somewhat in between. Mostely harmonic, but sometimes with a little spark of twinkling surprises. Have some aural fun with tracks by Scott Reich (Interbeing: Elements of Connection), Xenoton (Crescent), Jarguna & Henrik Meierkord (Tapestry Flow), Ivan Teixeira (Strength of Spirit), Jack Hertz (Artificial), radium88 (Until the Last Leaf Falls).

Nailed it

Episode 526

So I followed a competition recently on scoring a pursuit scene of Westworld season 3. Lots of composers uploaded their take to that famous video platform. And I must be crazy to watch the scene over and over again, only the score being different. After a while I knew the lines by heart, and it got difficult to follow through. To me it seems very difficult to compose music for a film, having to see scenes over and over and over to match the music to the films details. And only few of the compositions did so, some failed big time to match the scene's cuts or impressions at all. But I was impressed on the sheer variety of approaches to making the music work with the story. Unfortunately I was to late to try myself. It still reminded me of how I work on music, listening to short sequences repeatedly for hours to get the details right, so it sounds good to me, like I want it to be. Of course, only until a few days later when I find some new details to change. Maybe, I will never get done with it. Well. Some great musicians did and put out their music as album, single, or contribution to a compilation. Six of them made it to tonight's edition. Have a great time with music by Der Waldläufer feat. BaoBao (Inyourmind), Myth (History of Life), This Digital Landscape (Waveform Magazine Issue 3), Tangram (Ether), moonbooter (Elected Pieces 2012 to 2020), Nubrada (Pote 3).
